Giving Back In A Big Way

Every year, we look forward to our Backpack Giveaway, a day to bring people together and give back to the Immokalee community that has given us so much. This year, hundreds of people and more than 30 nonprofits joined us to share food and fun activities. Kids scaled the rock-climbing wall, shot water from firehoses, sported new haircuts, and toted home free school supplies.

Here are some of the event numbers:

  • 1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies given away to local children
  • 42 exhibitors provided entertainment and information to families
  • 72 brand new bicycles with locks and helmets given to kids
  • 1,500 Kona Ice snow cones handed out
  • 3 radio stations and 2 newspaper outlets promoted the event
  • 500 families received groceries from the Harry Chapin Food Bank out of Fort Myers
  • 200 free haircuts provided by students of the Immokalee iTech Technical College
  • 200 volunteers donated their time and talents
  • 24 sponsoring companies provided event support

Obviously, it takes a lot of people to make an event like this happen! Thank you to everyone who attended and to all of our community and media partners, sponsors, and volunteers.
